Biographical information:

On the social security account application for Samuel and Charles in December 1936, Samuel wrote his name and his father's name as Chirlin; Charles used the spelling Cherlin for both.

His NYC death record lists Morris Carlin, died Feb. 23, 1940, Queens, aged 59, born ca. 1881

Based on comments by Sam Haimm, it is likely that the son identified as Isidor in the 1910 census was known to the family as Irving, and that Harry (8 months at the time of the census, in April 1910) did not survive.

From the 1910 Census:

Born ca. 1882 in Russia. Immigrated 1905. Operator, Cloaks. Married ca. 1904.

Children Isidor, Louis, Harry added from the 1910 census.

Lived at 30 Canal St., NYC in 1906 when Ida and Isidor immigrated. Lived at 346 Christopher St., Brooklyn in 1910. Samuel was born in Manhattan and died in West Palm Beach, FL in 1976. Charles was born in Brooklyn and died in Florida in 1998.

There is a possible match with the Ellis Island entry of Mendel Zirlin, January 4, 1905, on the Statendam from Rotterdam. Aged 25, tailor, from Minsk, going to join his brother Moische Zirlin at 51 Norfolk St., New York. The age is not a perfect match and there is nothing to pin it down. Ida and Isidor came via Antwerp, which is a positive sign.
