"Ronald D. Chervin, MD, MS, Associate Professor of Neurology, directs the University of Michigan Sleep Disorders Center. Dr. Chervin's research interests focus on neurological and behavioral effects of sleep disorders, especially among children. He and his colleagues developed a Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire, demonstrated its utility for clinical research, studied the frequency of sleep symptoms among children, characterized the frequency with which pediatricians address childhood sleep problems, and described an an association between inattentive, hyperactive behavior and symptoms of two primary sleep disorders: obstructive sleep apnea and restless legs syndrome. Ongoing studies use polysomnography, cognitive testing, and psychiatric evaluations to characterize morbidity associated with childhood sleep-disordered breathing, determine what polysomnographic methods are most useful in assessment of this condition, and define key outcomes of treatment for the sleep disorder. Dr. Chervin serves as an editorial board member for Sleep and Sleep Medicine, an ad hoc reviewer for 20 other professional journals, and a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine Fellowship Training Committee. He has published 52 articles, 11 chapters, and 69 letters and abstracts."
