Seplowitz Family, Rabbi Yerachmiel Seplowitz Line

Information: Rabbi Yerachmiel Seplowitz

Another Seplowitz line with a Cherlin connection (Hennah Riveh) is here

At the moment this is just a skeleton, but we hope to extend it.

Rabbi Seplowitz has done extensive work on Seplowitz family genealogy, some of which is incorporated into our chart of Hennah Riveh's line. We hope to put up more of his information at some point.

It seems quite possible that these two lines are related, with the second Pinchus a contemporary and possibly near relative of another Yosef. On the other hand Jeffrey Schweitzer reports that as a result of genetic testing the two lines seem quite separate:

The Rabbi is a J2 haplogroup, common in Ashkenazim, while the other line has an unusual P marker which appears to come from Central Asia and is thought to be a marker of Khazar ancestry.

There was "an entire street" of Seplowitz's in Postoff (also called Pastavy, etc.) at one time.
Concerning the name Seplowitz:
Alexander Beider's dictionary of Jewish Surnames for the Russian Empire does not have this form of the name, but has a number of similar forms such as Tseplovich and Cheplevich, also attested in these lines.
