Biographical information:

London, general dealer.

The name Ufland suggests that Louis or his family originated in Alsace. According to the family account transmitted by Harry Brookes, at least one of Louis son's settled in Manhattan, and it would appear that the film producer Harry Ufland is in this line.

His daughter Mire married Abram Cherlin in London. Both died about 1903 and the children were raised by their grandmother. In 1919 their daughter Beryl married an Australian, Chester Collett Ward, who had served in France during WWI, and they emigrated to Australia, arranging to bring over the surviving members of the family. As the grandmother died at this time and WWI and influenza had taken a toll on the children, the surviving family consisted of Ben, Esther, and Jack.

The Australian and American lines had no further contact.
